January 31, 2022
Dear Colleagues,
In January 2022, the Whitehouse Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) released implementation guidance to inform federal funding agencies’ implementation of the National Security Presidential Memo – 33 (NSPM-33). This guidance requires that research organizations designate a research security point of contact (POC). In line with this guidance, I am pleased to inform you that we are naming Deepika Bhatia, to serve as the University’s Chief Research Security Officer
Ms. Bhatia is Associate Vice President for Research Compliance and Regulatory Affairs (RCRA) and brings a wealth of knowledge in the realm of university research compliance and regulatory oversight. She joined Emory in November 2021, after serving as Director of Research & Compliance at the University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical Center. Prior to her role as Director, she has held additional leadership roles at UT Southwestern, including Assistant Director of Compliance Strategic Initiatives and Assistant Director of Research & Academic Compliance.
In the role as Chief Research Security Officer, she will be the primary point of contact for our sponsors for matters related to research security. She will oversee the implementation of this guidance and serve as co-chair of the Research Security and International Collaboration (RSIC) committee with Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, Tim Holbrook. Deepika can also be available to give presentations to faculty/research groups and provide additional information on the research security program at Emory.
Please feel free to welcome or contact Deepika Bhatia via email at dbsivak@emory.edu.
Thank you,
