SVPR Project Management and Evaluation Service Center

Principal Investigators at Emory University leading funded projects may contract with the SVPR Project Management and Evaluation Service Center for project management and evaluation services. The service center employs experienced project managers and PhD-level evaluators. This service is meant to fill short-term gaps in Emory’s research ecosystem during a new project launch, in times of transition, and for short-term needs. Using the service center is optional. Services

Project Management

Project managers (PMs) are responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the completion of specific projects and, in collaboration with others, ensuring these projects are on time, on budget, and within scope. PMs are not scientific experts. Projects that are very large, fast-paced, more complex, have high visibility, and/or require more autonomy may be appropriate for an advanced PM.

Generally, the PMs in the SVPR Project Management and Evaluation Service Center are contracted on a short-term basis before a dedicated project manager can be hired or to fill project management needs that do not require a full-time person.

Evaluation

Evaluation refers to the systematic collection of information about the activities, characteristics, and outcomes of programs, for use by people to reduce uncertainties, improve effectiveness, and make decisions. The results of evaluation are often used to improve an activity or inform the next steps of a project.

Generally, the evaluation experts in the SVPR Project Management and Evaluation Service Center are contracted on a short-term basis when an external evaluator cannot be identified in a timely way or for small evaluation projects.
