On November 24, 2025, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) released Notice NOT-OD-26-012, which provides guidance on how the NIH is resuming operations after the government shutdown. Below are highlights from this notice:
1) NIH applications due between October 1st and December 5th will now be accepted until DECEMBER 8, 2025 at 5:00PM EDT.
2) Changes for Grants submitted for January or May 2026 Council rounds
3) Research Progress Reports should be submitted as usual
4) Temporary adjustments to peer review
5) Early Stage Investigator (EDI) status will be automatically adjusted
6) K99/R00 eligibility - guidance to come soon
7) Loan Repayment Program deadlines is now December 4, 2025
