Mobile Opportunities for Training and Innovating: Nursing (MOTION)
Research Impacts
- Expands access to primary care for medically underserved and rural communities through nurseled mobile health units while strengthening training for nursing students, both pre- and post-licensure, in social determinants of health and culturally sensitive care.
Background
The Emory in MOTION program aims to tackle key challenges within healthcare, focusing on fragmented systems and overemphasis on acute care while addressing the disparities caused by income in determining healthcare access. By promoting community-based primary healthcare, the program integrates behavioral health with medical care and emphasizes health promotion, wellness, and care coordination for individuals with complex health needs. It also provides coaching for self-management and pays attention to social determinants of health to increase access to care, ensuring a more holistic and equitable approach to healthcare delivery.
Mission/Vision
Emory in MOTION is a collaboration that aims to expand mobile health care services to nine Georgia counties with medically underserved populations. Each mobile health unit will be equipped to provide nurse-led, quality health care. The four-year project expands on the school's long-standing partnerships with community-based and public health organizations in both the metro Atlanta area and Moultrie, Ga.
